    What We Actually Do

    Our
    Craft.

Craft is a word used to justify an extra forty dollars. Here is the narrower, more useful version: what we choose, what we reject, and what we will not claim.
    The PAWD Standard
    We Don't Make
    Everything.
    We Choose
    Carefully.
"Tell me what it is made of, tell me how to size it, and charge me what it is worth. That turned out to be a hard thing to find."
    Shop the Collection
Every product on this site was assessed individually. Not imported from a feed, not bulk-listed from a supplier catalogue. Someone looked at each one, decided it was worth selling, and wrote the page for it.
We are not a manufacturer. The range is designed and selected in Sydney and made by a specialist pet accessory maker overseas. We would rather tell you that plainly than invent a workshop.
What we do control is judgement and description. Which products make the range, what we say they are made of, how the sizing is explained, and whether the photograph shows the actual item.
That sounds like a small promise next to the heritage stories other brands tell. It has the advantage of being true, and of being the thing that actually decides whether a collar fits your dog.
    What We Work With
    Four Materials,
    Named Honestly.
Every product page states its material and you can filter the whole range by it. Only the products that say leather are leather. Here is what each one actually does.
    Vegan Leather
    Most of the range
A polyurethane surface bonded to a fabric backing. It holds colour, shrugs off water and wipes clean with a damp cloth, which matters more than it sounds like it should once you have met a dog who swims. It will not develop a patina, and it eventually cracks at a permanent fold, so store it flat.
Used in: Collars, Leads, Harnesses, Carriers
    Cotton Rope
    Braided, around a core
Rope has one quality nothing else matches: it gives. A dog that hits the end of a rope lead at speed gets a cushioned stop rather than a jolt, and so does your shoulder. The trade-off is that cotton holds water and takes a while to dry. Check the termination where it meets the hardware, not the braid.
Used in: Rope Leads, Braided Collars, Basket Beds
    Nylon Webbing
    Flat woven
The workhorse of the category and genuinely the right answer for a lot of dogs. Strong for its weight, dries fast, does not mind salt water. Quality lives in the tightness of the weave and the fixing of the dye: a loose, heavily dyed nylon frays at the edges and can bleed onto pale fur when wet.
Used in: Harnesses, Training Leads, Everyday Collars
    Leather
A small part of the range
Only the products whose pages say leather are leather, and that is a deliberately short list. It softens where it is handled and darkens slowly with contact. Keep it out of prolonged soaking, dry it flat away from heat, condition it every month or two, and it will outlast everything else in the drawer.
Used in: Selected Collars, Leads and Harnesses
    How the Range Is Built
    Chosen One
    Product at a Time.
We looked at several thousand products to arrive at a few hundred. This is what each one went through.
    01
    Assess Every Product Individually
Nothing here arrived through a catalogue feed. Each item was judged on hardware, stitching, materials and whether the photographs matched the specification.
    02
    Reject Most of It
Out go hardware with a casting seam you can feel, D-rings held on by a single line of stitching, beds whose covers do not come off, and near-identical duplicates.
    03
    Identify the Material
Every item gets a material read off the supplier record and the product itself. If we cannot establish what something is made of, we do not guess on the product page.
    04
    Photograph and Describe It Honestly
Every image is checked for supplier watermarks, baked-in size charts, text overlays and other brands' logos. Every listing gets its material, its measurements and a size guide.

    The Things We
    Won't Compromise On.
Not aspirations. These are specific, checkable commitments, and the last one costs us sales.
    ✓
The Material on the Page Is the Real One
Vegan leather is called vegan leather. Leather is only called leather where the supplier record supports it. Where a lead has a rope body and a leather-look trim, the page says so, because the body is what wears.
    ✓
    Filterable by Material
Every collection page lets you filter the range by material, product type, size, colour and price. Most pet shops do not offer this, and the reason is usually that they would rather you did not look closely.
    ✓
    No Claims We Cannot Evidence
No certifications we do not hold. No countries of origin we cannot prove. No customer counts, review scores or years in business that we have invented. If it is on this site, we can back it.
    ✓
    Real Product Photography
No supplier watermarks, no size charts baked into images, no text overlays, no logos belonging to someone else, and no stock photography standing in for the item you are buying.
    ✓
    Honest About Cat Collars
Our cat collars are not breakaway. We say so on the cat guide and we mean it: they suit indoor and supervised wear. If your cat goes out unsupervised, buy a breakaway collar, from us when we have one or from anyone else today.
    ✓
    Sizing That Prevents Returns
Most returns in this category are a fit problem. Every size on this site is a measurement range in centimetres, and every guide tells you where to put the tape and what to do when your dog falls between two sizes.
    Where Things Come From
    What We Can
    and Cannot Tell You.
PAWD is an Australian brand based in Sydney. The range is manufactured by a specialist pet accessory maker overseas. That is the honest description, and it is the one we will keep using until there is something better to say.
We cannot currently name the factory, the town, or the labour conditions behind each product. Establishing and evidencing that chain properly is work we have not done. When we have, this page will name names. Until then it will not pretend to.

A decent collar, honestly described, at a fair price. It is a smaller promise than most brands make. We intend to keep it.
