How to Measure Your Dog for the Perfect Collar Fit
Finding the right collar size is simpler than you think — and getting it right makes a real difference to your dog's comfort and safety.
What You'll Need A soft measuring tape (or a piece of string and a ruler). Measure around the base of your dog's neck, where a collar would naturally sit. Add 2 fingers of space — that's your ideal fit. The collar should be snug enough that it won't slip over the head, but loose enough that you can slide two fingers underneath with ease.
PAWD Collar Size Guide
| Size | Neck Circumference | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 20–28 cm | Small breeds, puppies |
| S | 28–36 cm | Whippets, Beagles, Cocker Spaniels |
| M | 36–44 cm | Labradors, Border Collies, Staffy |
| L | 44–54 cm | German Shepherds, Huskies, Ridgebacks |
| XL | 54–64 cm | Great Danes, Mastiffs, Saint Bernards |
Adjustable Range All PAWD collars have an adjustable range of approximately 8 cm, so if your dog sits between sizes, size up.
Puppy Note If you're buying for a puppy, consider their expected adult size. Most breeds reach full neck size by 12 months. We recommend sizing up and using the tightest adjustment setting while they grow.
Check the Fit Regularly Dogs' weight fluctuates with seasons and age. Check the two-finger rule every few months — especially after winter when a heavier coat can affect how a collar sits.
