Our Brand Story
Pawd started with a drawer. The one every dog owner ends up with, stuffed full of collars that did not work out.
A clip that rusted shut after one summer at the beach. Webbing that frayed where it met the D-ring. A lead that let go on a wet footpath in Ultimo, which is the sort of thing you only need to experience once before you start taking it rather seriously.
What we found when we went looking
The pet aisle splits cleanly in two, and neither half is much good.
On one side, cheap things that photograph beautifully and last a season. On the other, expensive things charging for a logo and built, underneath, in precisely the same way. We kept picking up a sixteen-dollar collar and a ninety-dollar collar and finding the same hardware on both.
What we wanted was narrow and apparently very difficult: tell me what it is made of, tell me how to size it, and charge me what it is worth.
What Pawd actually is
An Australian brand, run out of Sydney. The range is chosen and designed here and made by a specialist pet accessory manufacturer overseas.
That last sentence is the one most brands our size dress up, and we would rather not. There is no family tannery in our story. No mill with three generations behind it. What there is instead is a range picked one product at a time, and a short set of rules about how we describe it.
The rules
Say the material, accurately. Every product on this site carries its real material. Vegan leather is vegan leather. Cotton rope is cotton rope. When a lead has a rope body and a leather-look trim, we say exactly that, because the body is the part that wears.
Show the actual product. No supplier watermarks, no size charts baked into the photo, no stock image standing in for the real thing. If it is on the page, it is what turns up.
Make the sizing real. Most returns are a fit problem wearing a product problem's coat. So our guides tell you where to put the tape and what to do when your dog lands stubbornly between two sizes.
Never claim what we cannot show. No certifications we do not hold. No countries of origin we cannot evidence. No customer numbers we made up on a Tuesday. If we say it, we can back it.
Where this goes
We would like, eventually, to name our makers and publish materials testing. That takes time and a proper paper trail, and we are not there yet. When we are, this page will say so, and it will be true.
In the meantime: a decent collar, honestly described, at a fair price. It is a smaller promise than most brands make. We intend to actually keep it.
